If you’ve recently had an ENT procedure, such as sinus surgery or ear surgery, you may be wondering if you need to return to the ENT clinic for follow-up care, and if so, how often. You may even think it’s unnecessary as long as you don’t notice a recurrence of symptoms. However, checking in on your ENT health regularly after a procedure can be incredibly beneficial in promoting healing and preventing new infections.

Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late
Minor ENT symptoms, such as congestion, scratchy throats and ear pain, might be easy to dismiss as temporary nuisances. While it is sometimes true that these symptoms will resolve on their own, other times, they may indicate a structural or chronic issue. And if you’ve had a prior issue that required a procedure or surgery, it’s best not to take any chances.
Be Proactive with Scheduling
It’s best to visit your ENT specialist once a year following a procedure to monitor your ENT health. At first, these visits will be mostly focused on healing and recovery, but after a year or so, you’ll shift into maintenance mode. If you had a sinus surgery, for example, you and your ENT specialist will continue to watch for issues with congestion or increased chances of developing a sinus infection.
Why Regular Appointments After Treatment Matter
You had your procedure because your symptoms were impeding your daily life; you don’t want to return to that state. We want you to continue to enjoy the relief brought on by your treatment for as long as possible, which is why we recommend being proactive with appointments and monitoring. As they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
